What We're Here For

Reviews, that's what. Although, given I've already ticked one person off because I didn't mention artists (maybe I didn't have anything nice to say, or nothing special to say) and then I ticked someone off because I enjoyed The Killing Joke and consider it the impetus for Babs becoming Oracle even if it wasn't done for years and it was done by someone else. So, let's see if I can piss anyone else off.

Black Canary Wedding Planner
Okay, I'm weak, perhaps, but I loved this. I don't recall wedding planners when I got married over 20 years ago, but anyone planning a wedding or having gotten married has got to relate to at least some of this. The art was playful (there, I mentioned the art, uh, now who did it? Ferguson, Story, and Norrie), especially the magazine covers and especially "Her Secret." The note from Roy and the headline "Black is the New Black" made me giggle. I just want to know who's the best man and who's giving Dinah away? Oh, and why is Ollie's hair getting redder and redder?

Countdown 34
Things are heating up. Wally vs Piper and Trickster was very good, the things going on with Jimmy are getting more and more intriguing, and I've reached the point where I hate switching storylines or threads because I want to know what happens next, with just about everyone! I don't think it's as good as 52, which came together more quickly as an overall story, but it's close.

Supergirl 21
This didn't suck. It didn't overwhelm me with goodness, other than Guedes' lovely art, but I'm still on the fence, waiting for this to get better.

I still have a lot of new titles to read, but I also read some older ones.

Hiding in Time 1
A rather bloody first issue, but this looks like a nice spin on people hiding in the past. Rather than escaped criminals, they're in the Witness Protection Program and they're being hunted and slaughtered. I plan to give this a fair chance.

All-Star Superman 7-8
More fun from this retelling of the Superman legend. A very different type of Bizarro than I'm used to, and I like them. They're not clowns the way they used to be.

The Spirit 9
This one was just creepy. Denny's been cursed by a dead enemy. I love this book. Bony zombies were never this much fun.

More reviews to come.

  1. Ohmigod, you didn't mention my favorite book/writer/artist! You molest dead puppies!

Well...got that out of my system. I must admit that I enjoyed the Green Arrow/Black Canary Wedding planner book, because I'm a sucker for weddings. Besides...it was cute.

I wouldn't want to be in Piper or Trickster's shoes right now.

  2. Thanks for the laugh, Sally. :)

Oh yeah, poor Piper and Trickster. They're like the Odd Couple of Crime. They really are fun in the oddest way. Poor fools.

Don't consider them cranky critics. Consider them a Rogues Gallery. That will make the rest of us jealous.
