Matthew Sturges doesn't quite have Willingham's wit, but for a familiar story -- naive witch type person enthralled by a handsome, charismatic demon -- this is fairly entertaining and involving. And with the Shadowpact divided over great distance, is there enough magic power around to save Laura? Good stuff.
Aquaman 57
I know people have enjoyed Tad Williams' take on Aquaman and I'll admit, given all the plot threads he threw at us at a breakneck pace, he tied things up nicely. Maybe if I hadn't hated the art so much, the story would have seemed better to me. As it is, I'm glad it's over. I'm glad the book is over. And I loved the first story arc in this reboot. But the art was way too cartoonish, making everyone look like buffoons. And I do think the dialogue was too snappy, too rush rush, and the whole "throw everything and the kitchen sink in" plotting made it difficult -- no, impossible -- for me to really care about anyone for more than a panel or two before we were on to the next thing.

Shadowpact is looking to be more and more appealing, so I guess I'll actually have to start picking it up. Besides, Detective Chimp just cracks me up.
