Two Weeks

This is a fallow time for my comics buying, so I waited until this week to review last week's books. Between last week and this week, I've got all of five comics to write about.

DC Bombshells 10
We're back to Selina and Helena and Zatanna and Kate, with a bit of Diana thrown in. Mostly, this issue focuses on the threat of the Tenebrae, which as evil beings go seem rather superfluous. Using supernatural evil during wartime isn't a new idea, and Hitler wasn't above using anything he could to beat the allies, but for some reason, this seems to be watering down the threats to our heroes and humanity rather than upping the stakes. Maybe because of all the talking. I'm so ambivalent about this book.

Black Widow 1
Waid, Samnee, and Wilson bring their talents to Natasha in a story that jumps right into the middle of something, but other than telling us Nat stole something from SHIELD and they want it, and her, back, we don't learn anything else and we don't get much by way of plot advancement because all this issue is is a long chase sequence. It's exciting, it looks thrilling, but for an introduction, it's a bit lacking. I love Nat, so I'll keep reading, but a few more teases of intrigue to come would've been nice.

The Spirit 8
This has one gorgeous cover. And it also brings Denny one step closer to discovering what happened to him when he disappeared, and why. I'm really enjoying this story.

Black Magick 5
And... the first arc ends, in the middle of the bigger story and me wanting more. Now! Ro's friend Alex is nearly killed when she tries to discern the evil behind the recent mysterious deaths, and, well, I want to know what this evil is and its connection to Ro, but I'll have to wait a bit. But the best part of this book is the gorgeous art by Nicola Scott.

Saga 34
Always, the best saved for last. From the beautiful cover to the promise of the last lovely page, this book never disappoints, not in this chapter, not ever. Hazel's teacher didn't die when she fell and hit her head and she's protecting Hazel's secret. Meanwhile, the Will has found the hapless yet intrepid journalists, and Marko and Alana are planning a prison break to save their daughter and his mother. Just an ordinary day or two in the Saga realm.
