DC May Solicits

Some interesting stuff for May, but Winick writing Batman and Robin?! Uh. No. Just...  no. I used to like his writing, but he really seems to have lost his touch. I've given him a chance on a number of books in the last few years and he's ruined them. *sigh* I guess I'll be dropping this book. Damn. I was really loving it.

How are you feeling about Birds Of Prey Lately? I'm ready to drop it. The latest artist is terrible. Art so bad it pulls me completely out of the story.

  2. I totally agree about Winick, his name on a book is my signal to leave. I don't care how good Power Girl might be post-Palmiotti/Gray/Conner, the first thing the man did was ruin Karen Starr's company and kill off a friend or two, which undermined the great work we were priviliged to read in the first 12 issues. It is as if the only conflict Winick can write is death. On mainstream comics, Winick is truly a one-trick pony. It is a shame that he apparently has lost that "thing" inside that created one of the funnest comics ever, Barry Ween.

The only thing that gives me hope is that this is a fill-in issue for Paul Cornell or Peter Tomasi, whoever was announced as the writer post-Morrison I don't remember, and he'll be gone in an issue or two. As it is, while he's on the book that is $2.99 less I'm spending.

  3. I hope that he's just doing a fill-in issue for Peter Tomasi and Pat Gleason.

  4. The art on BoP might not be great, but it's okay, and I'm enjoying the story. Babs vs Calculator always entertains me.

I'm hoping the Winick is just a fill-in. A one issue fill-in! But I won't read it. I'm tired of him ruining my favorite characters, not that he's the only writer who does that. It's like he got the idea somewhere that he has to write all this trauma and angst for characters so people will think he's a "serious" writer. feh

Winnick was bright and refreshing when I first read him, but I agree that he seems to be a one trick pony and all of his stories seem to be the same as you all have mentioned.
