Four Reviews

While trying to muster enthusiasm for Flashpoint, I continue reading current comics.

Batman and Robin 21
A very creepy story involving the murders of people related to Arkham inmates. This title clearly has cornered the market on weird Bat stories, and I'm loving it.

Zatanna 10
Although Batman and Robin doesn't come close to the sheer terror of an evil, grinning puppet. A clown would be close. Zatanna should've known better than to trust that smirking hunk of wood no matter what sob story he gave her.

Birds of Prey 10
Now that Oracle is "dead," I can't wait to see how things will now work for the Birds. I like that Babs is going back to Oracle's roots re: being covert, but this seems like she'll be even more undercover than before, so it should be interesting. At any rate, this ended nicely, with appearances from the rest of the Bat team. Even Selina showed up at the end of things. The only part of this I wasn't happy with was the bland art, though Lau's cover rocked.

Batgirl 19
I love having so many female-starring books to read. Batgirl continues to be fun as she balances school, home life, and her latest BG cases. Wendy is developing nicely as the book's co-star, too. Definitely worth reading.

  1. So who is the new Oracle? I'm assuming DC won't allow that name/character to go up for grabs so someone must have slipped into the chair.

  2. I think it's just that the bad guys think she's dead, but she'll just operate very deep cover. She just got too well known as Oracle and therefore, became a target. I'm looking forward to seeing how this shakes out next ish.

  3. Now that you mention it, it IS nice that there are a plethora of women starring in comic books. There's also Gotham City Sirens and Power Girl, not to mention Wonder Woman. I don't think that Marvel even comes close.

Batman & Robin was delightfully twisted. Birds of Prey was fun, although I agree that the artwork was rather subpar. And I am beginning to think that I really need to pick up Batgirl on a more regular basis.

  4. I wish DC had more ethnic diversity in its lead characters, and would stop killing off the ones they do have, but this is a great time for females. And yes, Sally, you need to be reading Batgirl regularly! :)
