I have been attempting to tackle the stack of unread comics. Dropping Nightwing, which has gotten generic and boring to me, should help. Adding new ones I like isn't helping. And thus, just a few reviews now, and belated at that.
The Life of Captain Marvel 1
This is good. First off, it looks gorgeous, with Pacheco and Fonteriz doing the present-day scenes and Sauvage handling the flashbacks. Dealing with unresolved anger issues, Carol heads to her childhood home where she needs to face her past. Writer Stohl got this title off to a great start. It's been a while since I've wanted to read about Carol.
Catwoman 1-2
Someone is posing as Selina to pull heists, and fresh off her busted romance with Bruce, she's not amused. Joelle Jones is handling story and art and there's both a fresh and throwback feel to classic Catwoman. I'm liking this more than I thought I would.
Adventures of the Super Sons 1
A maxi-series that picks up from the now canceled series, but takes place before the current Superman stories that I'm not reading. Tomasi really knows these characters and has fun with them. I'm really glad DC is doing this book.
Nancy Drew 1-3
I've been reading Nancy's adventures since I was 7 or so. I still have my Nancy Drew books, some of which were printed back in the 1930s and '40s. A couple still have their dustjackets! So I approached this comic with cautious optimism, hoping that Kelly Thompson would not screw up my all-time favorite literary character. Yeah, more a favorite than Supergirl. Jenn St-Onge's art is cartoonish, yet perfect for this reimagined, updated version of "the" girl detective. Bess and George are still around, though George is an out lesbian, and there are fun new characters, too. I hope we get an updated version of Ned, but the addition of Frank and Joe Hardy of Hardy Boys fame is a nice touch. The chapter cliffhangers evoke the books, and the character development is good. This is better than I had dared hope.
Ms. Marvel 33
Kamala's powers are out of control, so while she tries to fight the latest threat, anyway, Bruno tries to figure out what's gone wrong. The usual excellence fromt his title.
Flash 53
The discovery of more forces to go with the speed force has made for an interesting and entertaining storyline.

I Am a Bad Blogger
I am. I'm bad. I used to blog daily, or at worst, weekly. Now I spend my time on Facebook, reading news that alarms me, and on my tablet playing games. to calm me. Comics are still a way for me to relax, but blogging about them kind of became a chore. Still, I will forge on!
Here's some comics I read in the last month or two.
Kill or be Killed 20
The end of the story. This had a bit of a twist at the end. Overall, the story was magnificent.
Descender 30-32
This also is the conclusion and ended in a surprising way, which author Lemire admits in an afterward, wasn't the ending he'd planned. So there will now be a sequel, Ascender. I'm looking forward to it.
Saga 53-54
The end of the current arc. I can't... I can't really talk about it and not just because of spoilers. I have too many feelings about this. This is not a book for people who want only happy stories. That the book is going on a long hiatus, of a year or longer, is not helping.
Nightwing 46-47
Buh-bye. After some really nice stories that delved into Dick's personal life, past, and psyche, we get some tripe about a virtual attack on Bludhaven that, honestly, could have been told with any lead character. *yawn* I've reluctantly dropped this from my pull list.
Flash 49-52
Geez, these piled up. Wally's race through the speed force to find his missing children breaks the speed force and reveals there are other forces, too. I'm still reading this because I like the pseudo, comic-book science concepts it's dealing with. It's fun.
Ms. Marvel 31-32
Issue 31 is the 50th issue of Ms. Marvel (thanks to the renumbering nonsense), and is wonderful. Kamala has a slumber party, and guest artists help out in the oversized issue. And in the next issue, Kamala and Bruno try to pick up their friendship. This might be a book about superheroes, but the emotions are painfully realistic. I love this book.

Wonder Woman
This news has me beyond excited. I stopped reading Wonder Woman a while back, soon after Rucka left. But starting in November, the series will be written by G. Willow Wilson, co-creator of the wonderful Ms. Marvel over at Marvel. The best part is that she'll be building on what Rucka did on Wonder Woman Rebirth, not ignoring it all as his successors did. Now if she fixes Donna Troy in the process, especially her origin/backstory, I'll be in comic book heaven. Well done, DC!

Late as Usual
I have a growing stack of unread comics. I blame the political climate and too many online games for my lack of reviews here.
Anyway, here's some comics I did read.
Infinity Countdown Black Widow
I got this in the hope Bucky would show up, but he didn't, so I was disappointed. Not a bad story, even if I don't care about whatever Infinity Countdown is.
Titans Special New Justice
I got this to see which characters were going to be the Titans moving on. I wasn't impressed. And I'm really tired of the JLAers treating the Titans like kids when they're experienced adults, and I'm really tired of the Titans being a family of sorts being treated as a weakness. That was always their strength. Another comic off my list.
Flash 46-48
Focusing on Wally, his memories all returning, his past life, and the ramifications for the future. I'm enjoying this storyline.
KIll for be Killed 19
The penultimate issue of this comic is explosive. I have no idea how the story will end next issue, but this is definitely some of Brubaker's best writing.
Nightwing 44-45
New, weird story, not sure where it's going. Something involving hacking people's brains, or some such.I'm reserving judgment until it's finished.
Ms. Marvel 30
Just wonderful. And Bruno is back! Yay!
Super Sons 16
I'm going to miss this delightful team-up book. Yeah, there will be a mini-series, but with the changes to the Superman titles, that's all we'll get and it's not enough.
Saga 52
Still the best comic being published. All the emotions in one issue, as usual.

OMG So Late
So, I've had a stack of read comics to review, but I got lazy, then I got sick, and, well, here they are. Really late. And I've got another stack still needing to be read.
Titans 22 and Annual 2
The Annual contains the conclusion to the story in the main book, and Roy was vindicated. There was a good story here buried under ordinary writing. It was okay, but it could have been better. Still, we had the usual feelgood Titans story: they're at their best when they're together.
Kill or be Killed 18
This comic is winding down, with only a few more issues left, two after this one, I believe. The you-know-what is getting real close to hitting the fan.
Flash 44 -45
The speedsters neutralize the threat, then Titans Wally West finally reintroduces himself to his aunt Iris. This was a long time coming.
Saga 51
Fun times. Sadness. This issue has both and some stuff in between. Geez, I love this book.
Descender 28-29
A flashback story gives some background on the rise of the machines and we learn why Tim-21 is so important. Mostly. I love this, but I'm thinking it would've been better to read it all at once. That way, I wouldn't keep forgetting details from past issues by the time I read the new one.
Super Sons 15
Damian and Jon make a great team. Their latest adventure has them uncovering a threat to the Justice League. This book is so much fun.
Tales of Suspense 103 - 104: Hawkeye and the Winter Soldier
The bickering duo of Clint and Bucky is fun, but these issues belongs to Natasha,. First, we learn how she survived being killed and then she neatly isolates her former lovers so she can complete the job she set out to do. This was rather enjoyable and I hope we see more of Natasha soon.
Nightwing 43
Dick hangs out with Damian and Roy Harper, making for one weird team-up. Not bad.
Ms. Marvel 27-29
Kamala returns, just in time, to help save the day, with an assist from Captain Marvel. Bruno is back, too, and there's a new girl in school, and somehow, it all feels majorly important. This book is so good at capturing the feel of superheroing while dealing with teenage angst.
Superman 45
The Kents finally, officially move out of the Hamilton County house. Not much story here, just a very precious slice of life. I love this book so much. I have much concern over the Bendis era of Superman that's coming.
Action 1000
Lots of short stories showing how loved Supes is. I didn't read the Bendis one, though. Lots of lovely art, too.

Around Here Late is on Time
Seriously, I've long given up the whole idea of weekly reviews, or so it seems.
Anyway, the latest issues of Green Arrow and Nightwing did nothing for me, so I'm not reviewing them. Here's what I did like.
Nightwing 41
The conclusion of the Judge story was quite satisfying.
Black Magick 11
Now we're really into things. The suspense is really building, with the threat making itself known, going after Rowan's partner and his new baby. I love this book.
But I love Saga more! Saga 50 has a wonderful cover of Alana, Marko, and Hazel. The first scene depicts hot sex between Marko and Alana, so, a bit embarrassing to read on the subway,
Descender 27
The robots have the upper hand! Good science fiction.
Kill or be Killed 17
The suspense in this noir is palpable, and Dylan's narrative voice gives this book an extra hook. This far into the story, I still have no idea from what perspective he's narrating his story, let alone how crazy, if at all, he really is.
Black Lightning 5-6
The mini-series concludes in wonderful fashion and sets up a possible future story. There are many differences from the TV show, and that's okay. I'm just glad Black Lightning is back.
Flash 42-43
Setting up the upcoming Flash war story, I guess. Plus, Grodd. Average Flash story.
Super Sons 14
I continue to enjoy the friendship forged, in their quirky fashion, between Jon and Damian.
Action 999
The highlight of this issue is the awkward dinner at the Kent home with Lois' father.
Titans 21
Roy is in deep trouble and that's why I'm still reading. Because I love Roy and want to see where this is going.

Incredibly Late Reviews
It wasn't until I got the stack of read yet unreviewed comics that I realized how much I've been neglecting this blog. So, here's a whirlwind tour of what I've read over the last few weeks.
Hawkeye 15-16
Kate Bishop is a delightful character and the story concluded in an open-ended way, suggesting future stories, but for now, that's all she wrote. Hawkeye Kate should be returning in the summer.
Flash Annual 1
This is a Prelude to something called Flash War. The thing I loved about this was that it starred Wally West, the original Wally, and his attempt to carve out a new life for himself in a world where only a few people remember him.
Flash 39-41 (I did say these were very belated reviews)
Grodd is back. To be honest, I don't remember the first two issues all that well, but I just read the third and Barry has to ask Godspeed for help when things go from bad to worse. I like this comic, but it doesn't really have staying power.
Green Arrow 37-38
The first, long, story arc of this Rebirth title finally concludes in a nice, upbeat way. This might've been one of the longest continuing stories I can recall reading in a standard superhero comic, but it never felt that way. There were always other things going on, always forward movement even as things got bleaker and bleaker. This reworked Green Arrow is one of the finest versions. One of my favorite Rebirth titles.
Jessica Jones 16-17
Jessica finally vanquishes her demon: Kilgrave, the Purple Man. I like this book more for the art and layouts than for the words. Sometimes, I think the stories Bendis writes are padded and other times, they feel obtuse, as if he's leaving things out, making jumps mid-scene. It makes me very worried about him taking over Superman soon.
Batwoman 12
Mostly a flashback story and we should get back to the main story/present next issue. I don't like this version of Kate as much as the original one, but the story is interesting.
Super Sons 13
Damian's mom shows up and that can never be good. Other than for us readers.
Titans 20
The Titans were disbanded by the Justice League, which annoys me because the Titans are adults and should be able to function as a team if they want. The current story arc is really annoying and Abnett's dialogue leaves plenty to be desired, but this is where I have to come to get my Roy Harper fix, so I'm sticking with it. In this, Roy acts like the jerk he typically can be and ends up in a heap of trouble.
Kill or be Killed 16
More twists and turns in this amazing noir mystery.
Black Lightning 4
I hope this mini-series leads to an ongoing because I really love it.
Black Magick 10
Things are getting really creepy and dangerous and I keep thinking how good this book would be as a TV show.
Action 996-998
The concluding chapters to the time traveling saga. It was nice having Booster and Skeets around for a while.
Superman 40-42
The first two issues were an interesting story about a dying planet with a majority of inhabitants who didn't want Kal and Jon to save them. The third is the start of a Bizarro story and I'm not really fond of Bizarro, so we'll see how it goes.
Nightwing 38-40
The Judge is one scary villain from Dick's past and this story has been intense.
Saga 49
I've run out of superlatives for this book. 'nuff said.
Tales of Suspense 101-102
Clint and Bucky continue to search for the assassin who may or may not be Natasha. Their banter elevates the book from a standard mystery/spy story.
Hawkeye 15-16

Really Late Reviews Again
I haven't gotten my comics for the last two weeks. I was sick last week and this week, my LCS didn't get their shipment until yesterday, so I figured I'd just get them all with next week's batch, given how behind I am in my reading, anyway.
So, here's what I did read in the last couple of weeks.
WildStorm: Michael Cray 3-4
This is a wild ride, especially the warped versions of standard DC characters, like Barry Allen. I'm enjoying it. Cray is badass.
WildStorm 10
This reworking of the WildStorm 'verse continues to intrigue me. I think I've said that before.
Copperhead 17-18
The sheriff's backstory wasn't what I expected, and I do like being surprised, when the story is good. And this one is.
Batwoman 10 - 11
The venom story arc concludes in issue 10 and Kate takes on Prof. Pyg in issue 11. I'm enjoying this, but the original version of Kate Kane was better.
Super Sons Annual 1
Really, this is a Super-Pets tale as Krypto and Titus take on the case of missing dogs, with an assist from Detective Chimp. It's as cute as it sounds.
Batman 37
I picked this up thanks to the cover and apparently, it's the sequel to something and might be the middle of something, but it stands on its own as Lois, Clark, Bruce, and Selina go on a double date and yeah, it's as awesome as it sounds.
Superman 39
Supes takes a group of sick kids to the moon for an adventure they'll never forget. It's as heartwarming as it sounds. This is the Superman I love.
Action 994-995
Supes and Booster Gold deal with fractured time, including ending up in Booster's time and dealing with Booster's dad. I can't wait to see where this ends up.

Really Late Reviews
So, my PC is dead, and I'm typing this on my tablet, which means an onscreen keyboard I can't touch type on, so it's slow going. The reviews will be brief.
Captain America 697
We get into the meat of the story, with Steve hunted by Kraven. Intriguing.
Black Lightning 3
I love the new TV show so far and I'm enjoying this book. The social commentary is appreciated.
Jessica Jones 15
More creepiness with the Purple Man.
The Spirit: The Corpse-Makers 5
Decent conclusion to the story, though too long between chapters diluted it.
Kill or be Killed 15
A neat plot twist keeps this suspense story rolling.
Flash 36-38
Decent issues featuring Iron Heights prison and some Rogues.
Hawkeye 14
Clint meets Madame Masque-in-cloned-Kate-body. Fun issue.
Green Arrow 36
Dinah rescues Ollie, then things get complicated. I love this book.
Ms. Marvel 25-26
Kamala is AWOL, so her friends pick up the slack. Wonderful, as usual.
Nightwing 35-37
The Judge, a vicious killer Dickinson couldn't capture years ago, is back. I love how this iteration of NW's book works his history into the stories.
Superwoman 17-18
This once amazing book limps to the finish line. It's a shame.
Titans 18-19
Decent enough for me to keep reading, not bad enough for me to drop.
Action Comics 993
I have more of this to read. Super is in the past on Krypton to learn more about his father, and Booster Gold shows up. That alone makes this worth reading.
Tales of Suspense 100: Hawkeye and the Winter Soldier
Clint and Bucky don't think Black Widow is really dead, so they go looking for her. Nice start.

Another Round of Old Before New Reviews
First, I'm not getting my new comics today. Because it's cold and windy, and while I don't mind cold, I do mind high winds. I plan to venture out tomorrow.
Second, as usual, I've been negligent in posting. I read a lot of comics, but kept forgetting/putting off typing the albeit brief reviews. So, mea culpa and all that.
Third, I'm just as bad with watching streamed shows. See, because they're on streaming services, I can watch/binge at any time. Live TV comes first, then the shows I DVR, and finally, Netflix. I just started with Marvel's Defenders from the summer and after 5 episodes, I'm loving it. It's fun seeing the characters meet and get to know each other.
And now, the reviews!
Captain America 696
The Steve Rogers we know and love is back. A nice throwback type of story, very enjoyable, as Steve tries to connect with average Americans.
Black Lightning 2
It's hard to be a superhero when people think you're a killer. This is good, especially if you like a bit of social commentary with your comics, as I do.
Hawkeye 13
Kate and Clint team up! And it's as crazy as you'd expect. A fun comic. And I love the cover.
Nightwing 34
A satisfying conclusion to the current story. Raptor has been a good addition to Dick's story and backstory.
Flash 35
A bunch of story threads come together in this latest story arc, especially regarding Meena and the Speed Force.
Superman in Action Comics 992
The aftermath of "The Oz Effect" has Kal reeling, wondering about who he really is. This feels like buildup to a major story in issue 1000.
Superman 36
The end of the New Gods story (thank goodness) which ends with Supes and Luther arguing and Luther starting to scheme after Supes leaves.
Green Arrow 35
Sometimes, Ollie is an idiot, which is why it's good he has Kimi and Dinah to look out for him. This time, he trusted his surprisingly not-dead mother double crosses him. I love this comic.
Green Arrow Annual 1
A decent holiday story, but the art isn't as good as in the numbered issues.
Black Magick 9
Sometimes, I just stare at Nicola Scott's amazing art in this book and forget to read Greg Rucka's equally fine words. I'm not a big fan of magic kind of fantasy, but this is a grounded magic fantasy story and I'm really enjoying it.
Kill or be Killed 14
Brubaker keeps hitting homers with this book. Dylan's narrative voice is perfect and somewhat mesmerizing. In this chapter, he learns a bit more of his family history which may or may not shed light on the demon that's been haunting him. This is a topnotch psychological thriller.
Rocket Girl 9-10
I have to admit, I was losing interest in this. With so much time between many of the issues, I'd lost the thread of the story and really couldn't figure out how serious I should take this. If not for having backed this on Kickstarter and being in love with Amy Reeder's art, I might've stopped reading. I'm glad I stuck with it. The ending was a surprise, even if I'd figured some things out. Now I need to read the whole thing in one sitting.
Michael Cray 1-2
Cray is an interesting character from the WildCats book and this story exploring his background makes him more interesting. Good stuff.
Astro City 49
There are not enough superlatives for Astro City. This done-in-one story about a daughter trying to discover what happened to her father has emotional heft, as this series usually does.
Copperhead 16
This focuses on the secondary characters while revealing things about the missing sheriff. I'm enjoying this book, but I wish the art was better.
Ghost Station Zero 4
The conclusion of the latest Codename Baboushka story. Despite the cartoonish art, this is a high-adventure, high-action book about a kickass female operative. I'd love to see it filmed, especially now that I've finally watched the movie "Atomic Blonde," which was based on Baboushka's writer, Antony Johnston's graphic novel "The Coldest City."

Most Reviews Ever
First, apparently there are people reading this blog! Thanks to those of you who commented on the previous post, even if anonymously. It is greatly appreciated.
Second, I got addicted to a game called Home Street and have been playing it obsessively on my tablet. It's the main reason why these reviews are so late and my comics reading has lagged.
Third, the reviews. They will be brief and in no particular order.
Copperhead 15
I don't like the art quite as much as in the first arc, though the style is being maintained. The story is keeping me reading. Can't beat a space western mystery.
Descender 25-26
The robots are getting the upper hand and everyone wants Tim-21, either intact or destroyed. I do love this.
Wildstorm 8-9
This reimagining of the WildStorm universe continues to impress, even if I have to go by hairstyle (and facial hair or lack of same for the males) to tell characters apart.
Captain America 695
Apparently, the other Cap wasn't really Cap and this one is. I never did read the end of all that evil Cap stuff, which started off great and got annoying after about 6 or 7 issues. With Waid and Samnee on this, I figured I'd give it a try. Pretty good, basic heroic Cap. I'll probably keep reading.
Black Lightning 1
So nice to have Jefferson back, along with Tony Isabella at the helm, even if only for a mini-series.
Jessica Jones 14
After the irritating first story, this has gotten better. And the return of the Purple Man makes for a creepy read.
Batwoman 9
Nothing like an issue that's mostly fear venom-induced hallucinations to get to the heart of a character. I'm enjoying this version of Batwoman.
Hawkeye 12
Still proof that Kate is the better Hawkeye, at least to read about. Her personality bounds off the page.
Super Sons 10
The duo gets gifted with a secret sanctuary, from their dads. Fun.
Superman 34-35
Darkseid and the New Gods were never favorites of mine, but this has been decent.
Nightwing 33
I'm enjoying how the character of Dick Grayson has been deconstructed and explored in Rebirth.
Superwoman 16
This has been rather meh lately.
Ms. Marvel 24
This continues to be my favorite Marvel title. So much fun.
Action 991
As the thousandth issue looms(!), "The Oz Effect" comes to a conclusion, or does it? This has been an interesting storyline that adds to Superman's mythos.
Flash 34
Sometimes, Barry is an idiot. He always sees the best in people even when the evidence says otherwise, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
Titans 17
Two Donnas! One from now and one from the future. This could either end in an exciting finish or crash and burn. I'm really hoping my favorite team gets the former conclusion to this storyline.
Lady Mechanika: The Clockwork Assassin 3
Nice conclusion to the story. And the art continues to mesmerize me. Wonderful steampunk.
Kill or be Killed 13
Brubaker is at his best in this psychological thriller about a serial killer.

Is There a Point?
I have a stack of comics here to review, but can't help wondering if there's a point to these reviews. I don't write in depth about the comics I read. I occasionally/rarely write essays/opinion pieces about comics. I didn't even post about NY Comic Con this year, what with not spending time in Artists Alley due to it being moved to a cramped, dark space on the lower level of the Javits Center. I took so few photos, mostly just of some cosplayers.
I wonder if anyone is actually reading this blog, anymore, other than one person who comments. So, what's the point of continuing?
Here are the reviews for what I've read. I still have a bunch I didn't get to yet.
Superman Action Comics 989-990
I love the restored numbering. The Oz Effect storyline is scary, hitting close to home with the current state of the world. If Superman really existed, we wouldn't deserve him.
Flash 32-22
The first issue finished (?) the Iron Heights story; the second issue was a Metal tie-in, so I merely skimmed it.
Superman 33
Lex and Apokolips. Neither is a favorite of mine. Decent enough.
Superwoman 15
The current creative team would be fine if not for the awesomeness that preceded it. Now this is just an average comic. I'm not sure at this point if anything of note happened in this issue. A week or two after I read it, I've forgotten most of it.
Super Sons 9
A nice conclusion to a weird story about what it means to be a hero.
Green Arrow 33-34
The first issue includes some lovely Ollie/Dinah scenes and the second includes a heart-to-heart between Ollie and his mother (!). This book is one of my favorite Rebirth titles.
Nightwing 31-32
Nightwing vs Raptor, take 2. Another of my favorite Rebirth titles.
Titans 16
Are we finally getting close to an end of this saga? I'm enjoying it, still, but the payoff better be worth it.
Batwoman 8
This reworking of Batwoman and tweaking of her history continues to entertain, but I still prefer the original.
Saga 48
All the feels, plus a reunion or two.
Ghost Station Zero 3
I really like Baboushka, but I wish the art was realistic, not cartoonish. Fun spy/action story, though.
Astro City 48
The conclusion of the G-Dog story had me in tears.
Ms. Marvel 23
Kamala gets an unwanted partner, but he comes in handy when she has to stop a runaway train. Great as always.

Old Before New
I am so far behind on reviews. I read a lot of comics, but between getting hooked on yet more online games and New York Comic Con, I forgot to post reviews for the past few weeks. So, here they are, in no particular order.
Marvel Generations Ms. Marvel Ms. Marvel
This was better than Captain Mar-Vell Captain Marvel. Told from Kamala's pov, and written by her regular scribe, G. Willow Wilson, this was coherent and fairly interesting. The art was nice, too.
Jessica Jones 13
Jessica learns that the Purple Man is free, and she's understandably freaked out.
The Wild Storm 7
I'm really enjoying this re-imagined version of the WildStorm 'verse.
Batwoman 7
Kate gets back to her mission for Batman, but this is mostly a background/filler type issue. Decent.
Hawkeye 11
Kate goes head-to-head with Madame Masque in a cloned body of Kate. About as fun as you'd think.
Nightwing 30
Dick might need to make a deal with a devil to take on the unhinged Raptor.
Superman 31-32
Deathstroke's attack on Lois seems to be a test, of Superman. Not sure if this is leading to someone down the road for this book, or for another one. Not much of a story, but nice character bits.
Black Magick 8
I would buy this just to admire Nicola Scott's art. Rucka's writing is a nice bonus.
Flash 31
The conclusion to the Bloodwork story. Entertaining.
Action 988
I'm reading this for the Mr. Oz storyline. This is really intriguing.
Saga 47
It's Saga. I love it. What more needs to be said?
Green Arrow 31
I love this book. Probably my favorite DC title right now. Ollie learns the benefits of working with a team.
Descender 24
The robots are coming out on top. Is there any hope for humanity and/or the other non-AIs?
Super Sons 8
Another fun issue.
Not long reviews, but I'm not sure anyone is really reading this blog, anymore, except maybe one or two folks. I'm mostly keeping this going for myself. I'll try to get the current week's comics read and the reviews, so to speak, up before next Wednesday.

Old Before New
Wow, it's been a busy few weeks. I'm not even sure how many weeks this batch of comics represents. Two? Three? At any rate, I've got a lot of reviews -- well, brief commentary on each -- here.
Jessica Jones 12
The end of the Maria Hill, client storyline was rather entertaining. We got some background for Maria in her early days in SHIELD, plus things seem better with Jessica and Luke. So, hopefully, things are back on track here.
Ghost Station Zero 2
I really like Babushka and the cartoonish art seems to suit this. Pretty decent spy intrigue, too.
The Spirit: Corpse-Makers 4
Not the most involved story, but entertaining. Nice art, too.
Generations Captain Marvel Captain Mar-Vell
This was weird. I guess if I remembered more of the old Ms. Marvel book and had read the original Captain Marvel/Mar-Vell, I would have enjoyed this. The art was old-school. Somehow, Carol crosses paths with Mar-Vell before they officially met. In some alien realm. Or something. Overall, this didn't do much for me.
Superwoman 14
This seems to have crossed with something I don't read, but it was okay. I'd rather get back to Lana's emotional journey.
Astro City 47
Part one of G-Dog's origin. What's a good comic? This is a good comic!
Hawkeye 10
I'm really loving Kate as Hawkeye more than Clint, to be honest. She has so much energy. Which is why her friends should have realized the Kate they were hanging with this issue was an impostor.
Superman 30
Supes beats Parallax and Sinestro is miffed. This was okay, but I want to get back to Superman stories, not GL stories in this book.
Nightwing 28
This was fun. I like how Spyral is still part of Dick's life.
Green Arrow 30
This book continues to be one of DC's best. Lovely art, and a Mike Grell variant cover! Need I say more? Story-wise, Ollie is getting much closer to the real evil, with Hal's help.
Ms. Marvel 22
A good ending to the current story that is a reflection of real-world headlines. One of Marve's best books right now.
Flash 30
More about Barry's out-of-control powers, plus he learns about working as a team with his lab colleagues, but a new villain, Bloodwork, is a complication. Enjoyable.
Titans 15
The HIVE/Titan traitor storyline gets even more complicated. I have no idea where this is going, or what's going on with Wally. I hope this storyline is resolved soon.
Kill or be Killed 12
Brubaker is at his best in this psychological study of a serial killer who may or may not be haunted by an actual demon. To protect himself, Dylan ends up going after the head of the Russian mob in NYC. This can't end well.
Action 987
I don't normally read this Superman title, but I want to read "The Oz Effect" story and it kicks off with a shocker in this issue. Good stuff and some really nice art.
Jessica Jones 12

Len Wein RIP
I just read that Len Wein died. Comics have lost some great creators over the past few years and he was one of the greatest. He wrote some of my favorite comics. He co-created Swamp Thing. He was a creative genius, and from everything I've read, he was also a great guy. He will be missed.

Reviews Before New Comics
Oops, I'm falling behind again with reviews. There weren't many comics to read the last two weeks of August. Here's what I did read.
Flash 29
This is getting really intriguing. Barry and some other cops are investigating missing evidence, while Barry tries to deal with his newly destructive powers as the Flash. I look forward to seeing where this is going.
Saga 46
Poignant, as usual. I don't like discussing the story, itself, because you should read this for yourself. My favorite comic remains my favorite comic.
Black Magick 7
I would love this comic for Nicola Scott's amazingly realistic and beautiful art. Fortunately, she's illustrated Greg Rucka's words, so it's a win-win as witchcraft gets a modern-day treatment.
See? Not much at all.

Another Two Weeks
I think reviewing every two weeks is becoming the norm around here. Not my intention, but my procrastination is getting worse, it seems. Anyhow, here's what I read the past two weeks.
Superwoman 13
A flashback story to Lana, Clark, and Lex's youth in Smallville. The new creative team has kept up the quality on this book.
Flash 28
Thing are a real mess for Barry right now, and they're looking to get worse. This Rebirth title has been a wild ride so far, and I'm enjoying it.
Gotham Academy Second Semester 12: The Final Issue
A satisfying conclusion to the overall story and a nice resolution of Olive's predicament. I'm going to miss this. I hope they do a third semester book at some point in the future.
Ms. Marvel 21
Some scary parallels to the current political climate in the US and elsewhere. This manages to be topical while still being entertaining.
Titans 14
This book isn't the great title I'd been hoping for, but it's just good enough for me to keep reading it. I just wish, though, that writers of this team would stop having them bickering and remember that they're at their best when they're a family. Okay, a family that bickers sometimes, but still....
Superman 29
A Green Lantern story without a Green Lantern. Not bad, but not as good as this book has been. I'll keep an open mind, though, til the story concludes.
Nightwing 27
I love how Spyral has been worked into the current reality. And what's going on with Tiger and why is he trying to kill Dick, and Helena? I love the intrigue.
Green Arrow 29
This book remains one of my favorite Rebirth titles. The art is stunning and the writing is tight and full of intrigue as Ollie crosses paths with Batman, which is just what you think it would be like.
Wonder Woman 28
The post-Rucka Rebirth era has been a big disappointment for me. An assassin is still after Etta and I don't care. And the art is meh after Sharp and Scott's work on the book with Rucka. What's really bad is that nothing is really happening, certainly no character development.
Super Sons 7
Jon gets to go on a mission with the Teen Titans, which is as cool as it sounds.
Astro City 46
Background story for the mysterious narrator. I love this book so much.

Time Flies
I didn't post reviews last week, despite reading my comics in a timely fashion, because there were so few of them. So, here's the past two weeks' worth, which is becoming the norm around here.
Flash 27
The Rebirth version of Reverse Flash has been quite entertaining. Thawne's obsession with Barry comes to a head, with Iris caught in the middle, but she's no victim here, but someone with her own agency. This has been an emotionally complex storyline and I can't wait to see where the book goes next.
Wonder Woman 27
After Rucka's run, this has been a big disappointment. The conclusion (?) to last issue's somewhat intriguing first chapter turns out to be a run-of-the-mill story about a doctor who wanted Diana's powers. The story is dull and the art too cartoonish, not after Liam Sharp and Nicola Scott's art on Rucka's run and having Diana up on the big screen, finally. She deserves realistic art, art that shows her muscles, her athleticism, her real-ness. This isn't it.
Saga 45
Turns out that Alana is psychically projecting her dead fetus as a young boy and Hazel is enjoying having a brother, even if he isn't real. Somehow, Vaughn and Staples make this feel all-too-painfully real. Saga defies description; it needs to be experienced.
Green Arrow 28
Ollie traces the bad guys' tech to LexCorp, but Lex is as much a target as Queen Industries was. I have to say I'm enjoying Lex as a quasi-hero/arrogant billionaire much more than when he was simply Superman's most famous villain.
Nightwing 26
Huntress shows up and it looks like Spyral is mixed up in the evil organization Dick is investigating. Meanwhile, Shawn might be turning back to the dark side. Plus, Dick takes a steamy shower in the opening scene. :D
Superman 28
I got misty-eyed reading this concluding chapter of the Kent family vacation to see historical sites. This time, it's Washington DC. This is everything that's good about Superman comics.
Hawkeye 9
Kate gets into the fight of her life in a fight club while trying to rescue the father of her latest client. I'm really enjoying this. Kate's narration is a breath of fresh air.
Ghost Station Zero 1
I really enjoyed the first Codename: Baboushka: The Conclave of Death, so I gave this a try. So far, I'm loving it. The art is a bit cartoonish, but also nice and breezy and Baboushka is a fun action hero, albeit reluctantly. Lots of action with a strong female character. I hadn't realized writer Antony Johnston co-wrote the graphic novel the new movie "Atomic Blonde" was based on, which now makes me want to see that movie even more than I did once I saw the preview.

Eight Comics
A real mix this week.
Ms. Marvel 20
Somehow, this storyline focusing on citizens turning against Ms. Marvel and their suspicion of powered beings is scarier than any super-powered menace Kamala has faced so far. The parallels with real life give this book an extra impact.
Super Sons 6
Jon meets the Teen Titans. It doesn't go well. Fun.
Nightwing 25
Dick survives a multi-pronged attack, but his love life takes a hit. I really like him and Shawn as a couple, so I hope they can work things out, but I suspect there's an editorial mandate to keep him single.
Superman 27
The Kent family goes on vacation to visit important locations in the US and we all get a history lesson. I love this.
Green Arrow 27
Wonder Woman guest stars and it's as good as it sounds. Every comic should feature a guest visit from Diana.
Descender 22
The battle between robots and humans heats up and it looks like the humans are suffering the most casualties. A strong take on the humans vs. AIs storyline.
The WildStorm 6
The exposition issue, mostly, where characters explain the universe to us by filling in other characters. I'm really enjoying this version of the Wildstorm universe.
Batwoman 5
A flashback story, beautifully illustrated. I'm getting used to the newish origin for Kate as Batwoman. I don't love it like the original, because that Kate was better trained and more assured when she put on the costume, but this is a pretty good comic.

Past Two Weeks
And as another Wednesday approaches, here's what I read over the past two weeks, in Quick Takes.
Jessica Jones 10
More complications with Jessica's new client Maria Hill. This comic must be one of the slowest-paced comics around.
Hawkeye 8
Kate confronts her father. This continues to entertain.
Green Arrow 26
Ollie and Barry team up. I love this comic.
Nightwing 24
Dick takes on a lot of badguys. Pretty good cliffhanger, but really, I doubt Dick's been killed off.
Black Magick 6
It's back! With a flashback story to Rowan's coming of age as a witch. Nicola Scott outdid herself on the art.
Superman 26
A fill-in issue that looks at the father-son relationship. Fairly meh given how awesome this comic usually is.
Wonder Woman 26
New team. Shea Fontana's story starts off decently, but Mirka Andolfo's art is not what I think is right for Wonder Woman. Too cartoonish for me.
Titans 13
The team tries to find Karen's memory engram and the traitor is revealed. Maybe. I have no idea where this is going. Or if I like it. I'll hold judgment til the story arc concludes.
Flash 26
Iris is in the future with Reverse-Flash and Barry is uh, elsewhere. Intriguing.
Gotham Academy Second Semester 11
One more issue. I hope they bring this back for a third semester. I love these characters, especially Maps.
Superwoman 12
Lana finds her confidence. I'm still enjoying this, even with the new creative team.
Kill or be Killed 10
This is such an awesome book. 'Nuff said.
Jessica Jones 10
